The mission of the USNA is “To develop Midshipmen morally, mentally and physically.” The campus, known as “The Yard,” is a National Historic Landmark, 33 miles from Washington, D.C. and 30 miles from Baltimore. USNA students must have a congressional or presidential nomination to apply.

The U.S. Naval Academy provides a demanding four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy, or as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

Barnaby Ruhe graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1968. In 1975 Barnaby Ruhe earned an M.F.A. from Maryland Institute College of Art and in 1989 he procured a Ph.D. from New York University. He is a professor at New York University’s (NYU) Gallatin School Of Individualized Study.
